Walden, But With Bug Spray follows Lucy May, a 16-year-old homeschooler and dual-enrolled community college student, as she spends the summer camping on her family’s rural property for a Modern Walden honors project.

It’s a gentle coming-of-age story with family warmth, sibling chaos, journaling, nature, quiet courage, and a lot of bugs.

I wrote it because homeschooled students are so underrepresented in fiction.

Lucy was inspired in part by my own daughter, and this book became a love letter to the kind of kids who learn a little differently, think deeply, and grow quietly.
